Established in 1920, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shandong University) has remained as one of the key universities supported
by the Chinese central government. HIT was designated in 1996 as one of the
first national leading universities to be included in “Project 211” for
preferential support, and became one of the top nine national leading
universities in China to be included in “Project 985”in 1999. These nine
universities later became the C9 League in 2009 which is referred to as the
Chinese equivalent of the US Ivy League. The C9 League was formed to promote
more resources sharing, cooperative training, and joint research projects among
the best universities in China.
Approved by the Ministry of Education, Harbin Institute
of Technology Shenzhen (HITSZ) was co-founded by HIT and Shenzhen Government in
2002. In the last 12 years, HITSZ has developed a complete system for full-time
graduate education while we also offer programs for part-time students and
international students. As an integral part of HIT, HITSZ is committed to be a
research-oriented institution through exploration of high education reform and
internationalization. We strive to be an international institution deeply
rooted in Shenzhen and serving the nation.
HITSZ has first class teaching facilities as well
as an excellent faculty team. Among all the full time faculty members in HITSZ,
100% are doctoral degree holders, 67% have either studied or lived abroad, 60%
are entitled “High Level Talents of Shenzhen”, 10 professors have been accepted
by the national “Recruitment Program of Global Experts”, and 14 professors were
entitled “Excellent Talents of the New Century” by the Ministry of Education.
There are about 3000 master and doctoral candidates on campus now. In HITSZ,
all major courses are taught in English or bilingually in English and Chinese
with original English textbooks.
Taking good advantage of the disciplinary and faculty
strengths in HIT, HITSZ develops its fundamental scientific research and
application research to promote regional economic development, pushes forward
education of innovative graduates, and provides diversified consulting services
in Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and the Pan Pearl-River-Delta region.
HITSZ adopts an innovative approach in our curriculum
design. Interdisciplinary studies were promoted covering 22 master and PhD
programs within 7 schools in the areas of Computer Science and Technology,
Electronic and Information Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Automation,
Civil and Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning and Management, Material
Science and Engineering, and Natural Sciences and Humanities. There are more
than 20 research centers and several laboratories at national and provincial
level which serve as basic teaching and research units. Joint laboratories with
famous international universities and research institutions were set in recent
